Did you know that different oils have a different effect on hair? Not all oils are created equal! Oils have different properties and substances that make them unique.

At the atomic level oils have a range of molecular sizes. The smaller the molecule, the deeper it can penetrate into the hair strands.

Low porosity hair

Generally, small molecular-sized oils like coconut oil, sunflower oil, and babassu oil combined with medium to large molecular-sized light oils like argan oil, rosehip seed oil, and avocado oil are best for low porosity hair types.

Best oil for low/medium porosity hair:

Medium to high porosity hair

This means that medium to large molecular-sized oils is best to seal normal and high porosity hair. Some examples are olive oil, castor oil, sweet almond oil, rice bran oil.

Best oil for high porosity hair:

So does this mean I have to avoid certain oils depending on my hair’s porosity?

No you don’t! Just make sure the ratio of oils that your hair likes best is higher than the other oils in the blend.
