Natasha| 3 type hair Creative Natural Hair Icon USA

Hello, darling introduce yourself.

Hello Queens! My name is Natasha Bacchus-Saunders but I am better known as Naturallytash. I was born and raised in Staten Island, NY but I now reside in Houston, Tx. I began blogging/vlogging my natural hair journey about 8 years ago and that choice led me to the wonderful world of Temporary hair colour. I began by using hair chalks, temporary colour sprays, coloured mousses, coloured gels, eye shadow and cream eye shadows to create colour highlights in my hair. Soon after I gained the nickname “The Queen of Temporary Hair Colors” After growing tired and bored using the same colours over and over, I decided to create my brand of what I now refer to as “Hair Shadows”. I created Crown Paint Colors over two years ago with over 70 hair shadow colours available, a sealant get and 8 Deep Conditioning Colors.

How long have you been a creative natural girl and what made you do this choice?

I have been natural a little over 8 years now. I decided to return natural by transitioning and I did so because I had a lot of heat damage and I was ready to accept the hair that I had been born with. When I was little I was teased about my big bushy hair and I begged my mom to give me a perm just so I could somehow “fit in”. It took me to become an adult to realize I was never meant to “fit in” and I’ve grown to love my big bushy curls so much that I enjoy colouring them outrageous colour combos so that it can’t be missed!

Have you ever cut your hair super short or did you ever transition and how did you overcome that?

At the beginning of my journey, my hair was a little over shoulder length and I chose to transition and slowly cut my ends over time. I wore my hair in Bantu knots, braid outs and roller sets until I was able to do a successful wash and go. Later on in my journey, I did do somewhat of a big chop but it was more of a choice to just try something new.

How would you describe your hair texture?

If I had to go by hair types I would say my hair is a mix of the 3’s. If you go by porosity my hair is low porosity and is hard to retain moisture. Finding this out changed my life because I realized that my hair does wonders if I steam it and now knowing my porosity I buy hair products that are made for that type of hair.  So far I have been successful in doing that as opposed to just trying the latest and greatest natural hair products. Yes, I am a recovering product junkie 🙂

Which products do you use to wash and style your hair?

At this time I only use products that are for low porosity hair and I have found that almost all of the TGIN product line works great in my hair. I use their miracle repair strengthing shampoo and conditioner, the green tea super moist leave-in conditioner, the honey whip hydrating mousse, the honey custard curls and the miracle repair anti-breakage serum. Other products that I still use and love outside of the TGIN line are the Honey Baby Naturals Honey Shea Butter Hair Smoothie, Aussie Moist 3 minute miracle conditioner, the Creme of Nature Argan Oil Foaming Wrap Lotion and the Wild Growth Light Oil.

What are your favourite hairstyles?

I am very low maintenance when it comes to my hair. My favourite hairstyles are just my normal wash and go, a high curly ponytail and the occasional roller set. I am more of a colour girl. My hairstyles may not change much but my hair colour does!

Tell us two things that helped you get the hair you have now.

Two things that I would say helped me have the hair I have now are steaming my hair every other day to refresh it and oiling my scalp with the Wild growth light oil every other week. I also add a little bit of the wild growth light oil to both my shampoo and conditioner. I have found that less is way more with my hair. Not over manipulating it and letting it kind of do what it wants to do has done wonders for my hair health and length.

Tell us 2 don’ts for your hair.

Heavy oils like castor oil for example. It weighs my hair down and it gives it a greasy texture. The other thing I avoid is heat. I try to avoid it altogether because it was one of the main factors in why I went natural in the first place. After all, my hair was so heat damaged from flat irons, curling irons and blow dryers with a high heat setting. When blow-drying my hair now I use the cool setting and occasionally use low heat to blow out my hair.
